Disenchantment

Disenchantment (Entzauberung) in social sciences refers to the devaluation of mysticism. The concept was introduced by Max Weber to describe the character of modernized, secularized society, where scientific understanding is more highly valued than plain belief. The opposite is called re-enchantment.
