This section has many wikified words, phrases, and names, but there are no in-line citations of references for verification. As a result, much of the history section reads like original research. Some comments such as the relative importance/competence of two European diplomats appear to be biased without some citation of verifiable sources. While I may personally agree with the importance of those diplomats in the histories of their two nations, the acceptable option exists for other editors to MUNG/delete this section that is without citations to verifiable references, per Jimbo's approval.
