[edit] Unsourced additions to the Ariel Atom entry
Dinesh, hi and welcome to Wikipedia. I'm afraid that the contributions that you're making to the Ariel Atom article don't comply with Wikipedia policy on sourced information. Please read the following guidelines WP:REF. I appreciate that your information about Ian Midgley's involvement with the Atom design may be correct, but it is not verifiable. A Google search for Ian Midgley shows up nothing but a brief mention of his graduating project in an article covering the 2006 Coventry University Transport Design Degree Show. He certainly is not a notable car designer yet, regardless of what his profile might say on Facebook. I realise that you're probably helping a friend but Wikipedia is not the place to do that. Please do continue to contribute but make sure that your additions confirm to Wikipedia's guidelines. Dino246 (talk) 21:26, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- I don't doubt that Ian works for Ariel but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia of sourced material, not a collection of facts that people happen to know for sure. As strange as it may seem, the truth is secondary to what can be backed up by reliable sources available in the public domain. There is no shortage of information, magazine articles etc out there on the Atom. The fact that not a single one of them mentions Ian Midgley means that Wikipedia shouldn't either. It's nothing personal, I'm sure he's a very nice guy doing very good things at Ariel but in the interests of Wikipedia's credibility and integrity, he shouldn't be written about here before he's written about elsewhere. [edit] Conflict of interest at Motorcycle
If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Motorcycle, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
- and you must always:
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. Thank you. Brianhe (talk) 17:01, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Short shifting
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Short shifting, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.modernracer.com/tips/shortshifting.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 08:36, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Speedy deletion of Short shifting
A tag has been placed on Short shifting requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Pgtips800large.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Pgtips800large.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 00:53, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Your recent edits
Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button
located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 17:38, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Motor Carriage
I have certainly seen "horseless carriage" for the earliest self-propelled vehicles. While "car" clearly comes from "carriage", I suspect it did that in other contexts, without specific reference to motors - I am unconvinced that a term "motor carriage" was shortened to "motor car". I don't *know*, though - if you think you have a reference, by all means add it and remove the tag. -- Ian Dalziel (talk) 18:04, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Brooklands
Hi, I noticed you uploaded several images of cars at Brooklands under a CC/GDFL licence. In future, you might wish to upload these to the Wikimedia Commons, as they can then be used on all wikimedia projects. Thanks. -mattbuck (Talk) 22:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- No, upload to commons (adding [[Category:Brooklands]]), then tag the images on en.wiki with {{subst:ncd|Image:imagenameoncommons.jpg}} - they'll be deleted within a week or two after that. And no, no way I know of of uploading many images at once - it's probably an antispam thing. -mattbuck (Talk) 00:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Wikimedia Commons
Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!--OsamaK 01:55, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Concorde
I have reverted you change of the Lead image on the Concorde pagem as in-flight images are preferred to static ground images. In addition, the Concorde page's Lead image has been the subject of much discussion on the talk page. Feel free to discuss your reasons for believing the image you added, or another one, should be in the Lead image, and gain a consensus to support that choice before changing it again. Thanks. - BillCJ (talk) 19:52, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
