What does that sentence even mean? ("DigiPen is the only educational institution whose students place in the professional category at the Game Developers Conference")

The Game Developer's Conference has an Independent Games Festival competition there, where the best Indie games win awards. There are two competitions: The student competition and the professional competition. Most student games aren't strong enough to be selected as finalists in the professional categories. [edit] Comparing the IGF wins

21 games placing in the various categories at the IGF in 6 years is impressive. In order to inform the reader who is not familiar with the IGF its awards, the factual reference to the next best record by any school is appropriate. I suppose we could go into detail about how many awards the IGF has handed out every year, but since it has varied over the years (10 at the maximum for student projects to 6 at the minimum), and that could get rather cumbersome and wordy. In order to succinctly state the achievement and how it stands out, I believe context is called for. I think it would be acceptable (but a weaker statement of achievement) to not include the fact that Georgia Tech is second on the list, and just have the number: . The next three closest institutions placing in the student showcase have placed five, four and three, respectively, over six years.

-- why not just make a seperate page that lists all schools and award counts that have entered (winning or not) into the IGF competition since it started then keep a running tally of them in order of most wins to least wins, perhaps make links for each school that entered that goes to their individual wiki pages. Then just link that page as a ref on the DigiPen wiki page instead of talking about who got second, etc. directly on the DigiPen page. If people are confused, they can follow the ref link instead.

This tidbit in the trivia section seems wrong: "A car in Ridge Racer 64 for Nintendo 64 is labeled as DigiPen Racing. This is most likely related to Shigeru Miyamoto signing the faculty conference table, who is head of Nintendo."

I doubt this has anything to do with Miyamoto. It is more likely due to the fact that members of DigiPen's faculty worked on RR64.

Is there any reason Abbott should be in the notable professors section? Has he done anything outside of DigiPen to warrant it? I don't want to just remove him as I don't know his history. Ecks 02:33, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure we should be talking about what the CS courseload entails in the education section. Perhaps a subsection of the Education section where it talks about all the different majors (CS, art, masters, CE) separately? Ecks 17:13, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Should companies really be writing their own wikipedia entries? There are no citations for any of the facts, and it speaks directly and gives advice to people who might be "considering Digipen."

These problems remain. Yes, this article is written too much like a recruitment info sheet. More text on the institute in terms of notability is needed (independent refs to awards for example) and heavy pruning on the number of credits needed per semester, etc. The notability of the subject is probably not at issue, but independent sources are needed for awards, importance in the industry, etc., and the article needs to be rewritten to be encyclopedic rather than as a recruitment answer sheet.Professor marginalia 04:32, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Just placed a ref to the IGDA awards website, where the list of previous winners can be found. I couldn't find another place where the awards had all been gathered together. I think the number of credits is a valid comment, as it is one of the things that makes DigiPen different. I think the article has been almost entirely written by students and alumni-- perhaps if we did get someone from the administration, they'd compose it in a more appropriate fashion (unless someone can think of a non-biased author with deep knowledge of the institute). [edit] Art Building

The article says they are "in talks" or something. Hasn't this already happened, and the art students have moved? --Alph Tech STUART 16:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

The building is not 100% official yet as no one has moved in yet because they're doing construction on it. They're expecting it to be done by September. Ecks 15:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
