Digital prototyping

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Digital prototyping, also virtual prototyping, is a phrase that has been used in the MCAD (mechanical computer-aided design) space for more than a decade. It reemerged around 2007 and has become a discussion topic with trade media and industry analysts.

Daratech dedicated one of their online newsletters to the topic, and Cadalyst Magazine wrote an article on how digital prototyping is affecting everything from parts to plants.

Manufacturing industry bloggers have taken up the topic with much interest and are debating that digital prototyping is going directly against the PLM (product lifecycle management) topic that has been on the top of the industry jargon list for half a decade.[citation needed]
