Talk:Dieldrin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I seriously doubt that dieldrin was ever very effective, most chemical based pesticides are not. This is due in large part to the fact that pesticides are non-specific, they do not kill only the target insect but also its predators, as well as anything else that comes into contacts with it, such as fish, birds, and mammals. Since dieldrin, like other insecticides, kills indiscriminately, it also kills the target insects predators, which leads to a population boom. Also, insects usually become resistance to chemical insecticides, lowering the effectiveness of most insecticides, dieldrin included. Source: Silent Spring, Rachel Carson.
