Talk:Dialects of Central Iran

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Which one of the given sources is the main source of this article? Which source has considered Sedehi a northwestern Iranian dialect? Jahangard 21:02, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Does Lecoq say that all these dialects are northeastern dialects? Jahangard 16:33, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Other than the Ethnologue, Ruhlen has them in Northeast, but I need to look through the sources (especially on Iranian languages) to find more detail. Azalea pomp 06:07, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Some sources talk about a subgoup of northwestern branch which is spoken in central Iran (including dialects such as Qohrudi and Vafsi). Some other (such as Lecoq) talk about all Iranian dialects of Central Iran. These two are not the same thing. Does Ruhlen consider "Sedehi" a northwestern Iranian dialect? Jahangard 17:08, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
I need to find the sources which Ruhlen used to classify the Iranian languages. Ruhlen has Central Iran, Semnani, Caspian, Talysh, Zaza-Gorani, Baluchi, and Kurdish in Northwest while Persian, Tati, Fars, and Luri in Southwest. Ruhlen's classification is not exhaustive. He only includes in Central Iran: Yazdi, Nayini, Natanzi, Soi, Khunsari, Gazi, Sivandi, and Vafsi. Lecoq has for Central Iran: Vafsi, Ashtiani, Kahaki, Amorei, Alviri, Vidari, Mahallati, Vonishuni, Khunsari, Kashani, Arani, Qohrudi, Jowshaqani, Abyanei, Farizandi, Yaran(d)i, Meymei, Soi, Keshei, Tari, Natanzi, Abu Zeyd Abadi, Badrudi, Kafroni, Gazi, Sedehi, Varzenei, Judeo-Esfahani, Yazdi (Zoroastrians only), Kermani (Zoroastrians only), Judeo-Yazdi, Judeo-Kermani, Naini, Anaraki, Ardestani, Zefrei, Khuri, Farvi, and Mehrjani. Lecoq may have left out other dialects spoken in smaller towns or villages. I could not find in the Compendium any mention of a Northwest or Northeast division of Western Iranian. Northwest or Northeast division of Western Persian? Who has mentioned this division? Jahangard 04:29, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I meant to say Western Iranian. Azalea pomp 04:36, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
