From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diana Merry worked for Xerox PARC in the 1970s and 1980s as part of The Learning Research Group. She created the BitBLT machine instruction known as "Bit Block Transfer" for the Smalltalk-72 system. Her method was pivotal in the evolution of computer displays from using character graphics, to using bitmap graphics for everything.

Diana can be briefly seen and heard in the documentary film, Hackers: Wizards of the Electronic Age which covers the 1984 Hackers gathering, a meeting of those portrayed in Steven Levy's book Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution. She appears about 20 minutes into the film and, although unidentified, is wearing a name badge.
