- German Wikipedia Maps is far better than English Wikipedia Maps.
Captain Blood is the guru of map making, as far as I can tell. Among others he made Bild:Justinian Byzanz.png which really sets the standard for historical maps. His work and Roman-Persian Wars was the inspiration for the Historical Map Tutorial. Sadly, he is inactive.

- Virtualdub for video processing (FOSS) if I remember correctly
- VLCPlayer for video conversion (FOSS)
