Dewars Lane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dewar’s Lane is an alley-way of medieval origin. Over the centuries, heavy cart-wheels have cut deep grooves in its setts. Once painted by the artist LS Lowry, it has fallen into an extreme state of dilapidation, overrun with pigeons and seagulls. Future plans for the old Granary (which is situated on Dewar's Lane) is that the buildling will be strapped (as it has a tilt) and transformed into a youth hostel, with the possibility for many other services due to the central nature of the building within the town of Berwick upon Tweed. Hopefully this renovation will remove what is considered to be the largest eyesore in the town.

With its quaint cafes and curiosity shops it provides an excellent backdrop to the famous artist’s first painting in Berwick upon Tweed.
