As of 2001 India census^[2], Dewa had a population of 12,819. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Dewa has an average literacy rate of 45%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 51% and, female literacy is 38%. In Dewa, 17% of the population is under 6 years of age.
