So... Where do we go from here?
This page is clearly just a starting point. I don't even know where to start, but I figured a Common Gameplay Elements section was warranted, and the series page will give us a place to dump and expand on the allusions to the Divine Comedy portion. Other Media clearly fits, as well.
I'm inclined to include a rough timeline for the series as well, though I'm not sure if this could be handled in an encyclopedic manner. Cheers, Lankybugger 19:33, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think one next step would be to start some re-linking in the other DMC pages to this one when the link's subject is the series as a whole, rather than the first game. --Boradis 20:19, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- I've done some writing tweaks. Is there a DMC logo already uploaded and properly tagged that we could stick at the top? --Boradis 02:02, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
"Series innovations?" I dunno
It's just four points about how DMC2 contributed to the series. If we're going to have that, it should also list how games 1 and 3 contributed. And it should lose the language about "despite people being mean to DMC2, it helped make DMC3 so popular." --Boradis 20:27, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Good job on the rewrite. Like I mentioned in the creation of the page, I just copied and pasted a bunch of stuff. The Series Innovations was originally from a Devil May Cry 2 article item (before I decided to go with a less POV item), though I do stand by my conviction that DMC2 introduced a crapload of items considered staples to DMC3 gameplay. Should we comment on the backlash from DMC4 going multiplatform?
Just a question, but should we include this in the article? It was covered by a couple different news sites so it probably warrants a mention somewhere, but I'm not sure if it should be mentioned here in the series page or as a portion of the Devil May Cry 4 development section. Thoughts? Cheers, Lankybugger ○ speak ○ see ○ 04:08, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I say no. Unless and until something notable happens in the real world as a result, online complaining and fanboy kvetching are the furthest things from relevance there is. Besides, have you got a cite from a reliable source saying it matters at all? If not, it's not. --Boradis 04:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- I only bring it up as I've seen it on a couple of news sites and it prompted Christian Svensson of Capcom's senior management to actually respond, which tells me that they probably got a lot of mail regarding it. I'm not pushing for an entire section on it or anything, but a sentence or two would probably be appropriate. Cheers, Lankybugger ○ speak ○ see ○ 13:37, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Context
I added a context tag to the article. I believe that it lacks enough introductory text to be easily understood by a non-player. Assistance with correcting this would be appreciated, since I have no interest in joining DMCTF (due to, hmm... personal disagreement with some of the methods used, which I shall refrain from discussing...) but would desire some improvement on the DMC series article anyway. Thanks to everyone who helps. --Warp L. Obscura 05:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
And do feel free to remove it once sufficient consensus has been attained, the things are eyesores. --Warp L. Obscura 13:38, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. Unless anyone really objects, I'll yank it in a day or two. --Boradis 20:16, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Innovations?
Which game was it where you first had to change the attacks used in your combo so as to maintain the style rank? --Warp L. Obscura 13:38, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think DMC2 had it, and the article doesn't say. So I guess it was three. --Boradis 20:22, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- DMC3 was the first to introduce a quick-change button for melee weapons. DMC2 used the L2 button to quick-change your ranged weapons which was a part of maintaining that game's style ranking... it gave you time to close with your opponent if you were farther away. However, firearms themselves were powerful enough that often you'd finish your foe before you could close (especially with Ebony and Ivory), so the tactic was only really viable against boss-characters. Just thought I'd add that. Cheers, Lankybugger ○ speak ○ see ○ 04:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

- No, he means where you have to use different attacks constantly, with or without the same weapon. Like in DMC3 where you can't just use Rebellion's Combo 1 over and over and over and expect your style ranking to rise. Did DMC2 have that requirement? --Boradis 06:33, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

- I don't believe it. I remember once attacking one of the Zombi Tanks with Lucia and using the same attack (R1 + Fordward) all the time. The rank was raising, slowly but real. --Alexlayer 07:32, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Another note... why are we calling grouping three games together an innovation? Not only has it been done before, it doesn't really affect the gameplay. The Anniversery Collection should be removed from the section. Midaki 01:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
DMC PSP?
THere has been an announcement of a PSP version/sequel, but that was when the PSP was first released, and no title, or information, or anything, has been released since. Should we mention it? Midaki 01:47, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Right now I think it's safe to say that it's been abandoned. As no information has surfaced, I can only conclude that the game barely made it to the alpha stages of development before being canned, perhaps due to the relatively low numbers of PSP sales compared to the DS. As there's literally no verifiable information regarding the game, it's not worth mentioning. Cheers, Lankybugger ○ Yell ○ 00:21, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
