[edit] Summary

This is the front cover of a 103-page hagiograhpical book (booklet?) titled Devasahayam Pillai: The Martyr (authoured by P. Pushpa Raj and published by Nanjil Printers, Nagercoil.), depicting Devasahayam Pillai.

This painting of Devasahayam Pillai (in a kneeling posture, clad in a mundu, and in chains) is the usual depiction of Devasahayam Pillai used in Southern Tamil Nadu. Such a painting is also found on a wall of the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Kottar, Nagercoil, where the mortal remains of Devasahayam Pillai are interred. This depiction is also used in some road-signs on the way to Kathadimalai, the place of Devasahayam Pillai's martyrdom. It is also found on prayer cards that have on the reverse, a request to the faithful for prayers for the swift canonisation of Devasahayam Pillai.

The paintings at the bottom are a depiction of the church building at Kathadimalai.

The uploader of this image purchased a copy of this book (1988 edition) in 1998, when he visited Kathadimalai, and this image is scanned from the front cover of the book.
