Devarayasamudram is a little hamlet some 90 km outside of Bangalore, Karnataka state, India. It lies between Kolar and Mulbagal on the Old Madras Highway.
Devarayasamudra is the main village in Ashtagrama (8 Villages). These 8 villages were alloted by the King of Mysore. Mysore Government invited migrants from Tamil Nadu who were assigned to provide professional services for the government. They were mainly the Iyers (Brahmanas) from Tanjore who were pioneers in accounts, administration and also for Culinary areas.
The village has its own identity with about 95% literacy and a forward looking attitude.
The community has produced many talents who are well spread across the globe and are in top positions in professions like Engineering, Medicine, Management, Construction, Information technology and many more.
Several famous individuals in the Engineering profession began with humble beginnings in DSM.
