It doesn't seem so, but the article doesn't explicitly state this.

- In the early days of radio when only morse was transmitted by on/off transmission, a receiver needed to be only a detector of electromagnetic radiation. Later, more advanced ways of modulating in a transmitter were introduced, such as AM and FM for transmitting voice, so receivers then needed to incorporate a corresponding type of demodulator. The term "detector" is still seen used for circuits that actually do more than just detect, for the historical reason given.Cuddlyable3 07:18, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
