[edit] Wikipedia actually writes about this stuff?!?!
Here is my own listing about stuff that I've actually come across on Wikipedia that has managed to escape deletion. Usually, these items are about some really obscure stuff, and stuff you wouldn't expect to read in the Encyclopædia Britannica or World Book. While there are certainly some things that I do shake my head about wondering why in the heck this is here, most of these things are actually rather interesting and unique, and, IMHO, contributes to putting Wikipedia's own mark on the encyclopedia business. So I'm not really calling for their deletion here. Rather, I'm just thinking, "WTF?"
Of course, keep in mind that, this is a list in progress,...
- Announcer's Test – this is one of those old tongue twisters that was apparently made popular be Jerry Lewis. I still can't find much about its origins, other than what's written in the article, so it's still a very short article. Nonetheless, it's quite interesting.
- Farkisms and clichés – this was actually removed from article namespace due to issues involving the lack of citability, but I put it in the talk page for Fark.com because it's rather interesting, and can still be a resource to people on some of the internet memes out there.
- Five-second rule – I follow this rule religiously. It's good to know that we have it in writing now,... ;-)
- List of Family Guy episodes – there's actually a lot of material on this encyclopedia about Family Guy; I guess it has a big fan base.
- Lost counties, cities, and towns of Virginia – having lived in Virginia for 20 years, then moving to Kentucky and eventually to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, it's interesting to realize that apparently, I really didn't go anywhere (unless you count the two year stint in Arizona ;-).
- Natasha Demkina – supposedly a Russian girl with X-ray vision.
- Wikipedia:1000 things not to write your article about – not really an article, since it's not in article namespace, but it's somewhat related and interesting.
- 300-page iPhone bill – this only proves that mass media will write news stories on just about anything,...
