Derrick Harvey (born November 9, 1986 in Greenbelt, Maryland) is a an American football defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Jaguars eighth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida.

[edit] Early years
Harvey started football late, in his junior year of high school at Eleanor Roosevelt High School (Maryland). As a senior, he recorded over 150 tackles and 31 sacks, a Maryland state record, as well as five forced fumbles, two recovered fumbles and five batted down passes. He led his team to a 12-1 record and the 4A State Semi-finals, where they lost their only game of the season. He received first-team all-state honors by the Associated Press.
He was a high school All-America selection by Tom Lemming, EA Sports, Riddell and SuperPrep. He was also a second team All-America selection by USA Today. Harvey was also the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. A five-star recruit, he eventually committed to Florida. He also considered Ohio State, Maryland and Tennessee.

Harvey redshirted his freshman year.
In 2005, he appeared in nine games, recording six tackles and a sack. He did not see the field against some of the more high-profile teams, such as LSU or Georgia.
In 2006, Harvey broke out, playing in 14 games (starting 5) for Florida. His performance in the 2006 BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State, where he recorded 3 sacks, helped the Gators cruise to a victory, and won him the Defensive MVP award for the game. He finished the season with 35 tackles (13.5 for losses) and 11 sacks. He was tied second in the SEC for sacks.
In his junior season of 2007 Harvey played 13 games (starting all) and recorded 49 tackles with 17 of those for losses, which included 8.5 sacks. He also knocked down 5 passes and forced a fumble. Played major role on rushing defense that led the SEC and ranked 10th in the nation at 103.3 yards per game. Overall, Harvey made 51.5 plays behind the line of scrimmage, including 20.5 sacks and totaled 90 tackles.

Harvey was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars eighth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. Harvey was happy when the he was drafted by Jacksonvile because he played college for Florida. He was the first defensive end chosen by the Jaguars in the first round in franchise history. Was one of four defensive ends chosen in the first round of 2008 draft and second overall (Chris Long, St. Louis).
