The Derby Brats are a group of young girls between the ages of 10 and 17 who have an interest in playing roller derby. The first junior (or "brat") league was formed in Tucson by a group of kids who have been following the Tucson Roller Derby adult league. Since the formation of the original Tucson Derby Brat league, additional "brat leagues" have been formed in California and Washington and there are talks of more leagues forming.

[edit] Junior Flat Track Derby Association

As a result of the creation of the brat leagues, a new organization called the Junior Flat Track Derby Association (JFTDA) was formed. The JFTDA has created rules that are specific to junior roller derby. These rules are a modified version of the adult rules established by the Women's Flat Track Derby Association. The JFTDA also maintains a master roster of junior league skate names. This list is different than the International Rollergirl Master Roster that is used to register skate names for adult roller derby.

[edit] Derby Brats appearance at the 2007 WFTDA Nationals

At the 2007 WFTDA Texas Shootout Nationals Tournament in Austin, Texas, the Tucson Derby Brats and the Seattle Derby Brats held a demonstration bout between rounds in the tournament and exposed many people to the sport of junior roller derby.
