Department of Cybernetics (Reading University)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cybernetics has been taught at Reading University since 1963 as a modern inter-disciplinary subject reflecting many of the interests of a high technology society. The research that takes place there has an international reputation and is split between three large research groups[1]: 'Cybernetic Intelligence' which looks at intelligent machines, control and human intelligence; 'Interactive Systems' covers systems involving humans and machines, including medical cybernetics, robotics and virtual reality and the 'Instrumentation & Signal Processing' group work on Terahertz technology, signal processing and infrared multilayer filters.
Professor Kevin Warwick, reknowned for his experiments involving nervous system integration holds the Chair for Cybernetics in the department. The department forms part of the larger School of Systems Engineering, which as a collective has taken part in many global research efforts such as the DARPA Grand Challenge.
