[edit] Chronological order & more facts needed
I rearranged the sections to place info in chronological order as all bios should be done, but it's not complete; the 1st half needs a little bit more of that work done. Also, the term "rhythm guitarist" was placed before Tommy Shaw's name simply to demean him, which is not an accurate statement either. Tommy played plenty of solos and was simply a "guitarist" and JY was not the lead guitarist, at least not in their popularity during Shaw's tenure. It's funny how DDY fans will downplay Shaw's contributions and talent, but the band didn't have any significant mainstream success until after he come onboard (they were getting popular, but not selling a lot of albums) and didn't have any significant success after he quit --- the group disbanded shortly thereafter. Those are facts, not my opinion. I also removed a footnote to the DDY lawsuit that was broken/outdated and replaced with a "fact" tag and added a 2nd fact tag in the same paragraph concerning his diagnosis. I didn't add the "vague" tag; it was already there and I personally don't have a problem with removing it as "creative differences" wasn't the reason DDY was replaced --- it was DDY's failure/inability to tour with the group due to his condition. Unless somebody can cite a legitimate source that says "creative differences" was the reason DDY was replaced, it should be removed soon.--Bamadude 20:31, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] VANDALISM here & at related STYX pages
A small, select few Dennis DeYoung and/or Styx fans are trashing Tommy Shaw, James Young & Styx pages. Please confine your remarks to those which address the article itself and that can be cited using a neutral POV and please don't trash the Tommy Shaw or JY pages nor trash Tommy & JY on the Styx or DDY pages or they will probably all be nominated for indefinite locking, including the DDY page if the trash spills over there, which nobody who really cares about DDY, JY, Tommy or Styx want. It appears to be nothing more than a couple of young, anonymous individuals who have self-esteem issues that are intent on imposing their will and interjecting their uncited, POV remarks so the world will know how they feel, which is sad, but not amusing nor relevant to the articles.--Bamadude 22:21, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Being Compared to Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson?
I took that sentence out. To say that DeYoung was "often" compared to Wakeman and Emerson in terms of keyboard wizardry is a completely ridiculous and absurd assertion to make. Maybe a few hard-core Styx fans thought that, but that would be about it.Asc85 13:10, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
- As a 30-yr keyboardist who grew up listening and playing all 3 of these keyboardists' music, I can safely and easily say that you are 100% correct that DDY couldn't carry those guys' road cases, and that's not an opinion, that's a fact --- ask anybody who plays rock keyboards seriously and is at least over 40 years old. But to be fair to DDY, he wasn't trying to be those guys; he's an entertainer, pop-rock songwriter, singer & above-average keyboardist. Unfortunately, some fans love an artist so much that they just don't know the difference between an entertainer and someone who truly is a virtuoso keyboardist like Wakeman & Emerson and they elevate him to that statute, but DDY is NOT a great keyboardist and doesn't deserve to be recognized as such. I will leave this remark and section of the Talk page up for only a few weeks just to let DDY fans who regularly edit this page see it so they will hopefully understand the difference and then delete it since the info related to it has been deleted long ago.--Bamadude 01:56, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Point of View Annoyances on Late 90s Split
Here's a plea for stopping the stupid vandalism war in the Separation from Styx section. It should contain neutral statements of each side's view of the split and let's leave it at that. Statements like "DeYoung became impossible to work with" or "Styx is is now a shadow of itself" may or may not be true, but are all clearly point of view and therefore not appropriate here. Let's put aside the Tommy-fanboy and Dennis-fanboy silliness and try to be semi-professional about this. This is not a place for your POV. If you want to share your brilliant, insider view of the breakup or be somebody's girlfriend, start a blog or become a stalker, respectively. Etweeks 17:51, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- I agree --- it should state the official reasons and leave it at that, the "KISS" theory: Keep It Simple, Stupid. There's nothing wrong with stating both sides' reasons.--Bamadude 01:59, 19 August 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Keyboard "stub"?
I think this article has grown enough to have any "stub" tags removed. Any objections? Scarletsmith 23:36, 18 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, absolutely remove it.--Bamadude 01:57, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
