Dennis Fritz and Ron Williamson were wrongly convicted of the murder of Ada, Oklahoma resident Debra Carter. Fritz was given a life sentence, while Williamson was sentenced to death in 1988. Fritz and Williamson were the subjects of a non-fiction book, The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town by John Grisham which later went on to become a bestseller. Fritz later had his conviction overturned and was released from prison on April 15, 1999.
