Dennis Blome was an actual sheriff at the time he played the role of a sheriff that gets handcuffed to his car in the 1988 film Miles from Home. At that time, he was the sheriff of Linn County, Iowa. He held that position for many years until 1994 when he stepped down to become a U.S. Marshal.
