Deng Shichang (鄧世昌) (1849 - 17 September 1894) was a famous Chinese admiral during the late Qing Dynasty (清朝) era. Native of Panyu, Guangdong Province (廣東番禺); originally named as Yongchang (永昌); courtesy name Zhengqing (正卿).
Deng was the first generation of modern naval officers trained in China. He entered the Naval Academy (船政學堂) in Mawei (馬尾), Fujian Province in 1867 and graduated in 1874. He rose through the ranks and became the captain (管帶) of the cruiser Zhiyuan (致遠) in 1887. He died in combat during the First Sino-Japanese War (中日甲午戰爭).
In 1996, the People's Liberation Army Navy named a naval training ship as Shichang in remembrance of him.
