Talk:Demography of London

[edit] Second most populous city in Europe?
The article states that London is the second most populous city in Europe, after Moscow. What about Istanbul? It has a population of just over 10 million. The issue is complicated by the fact that the city is in two continents. Any ideas? Cordless Larry 22:59, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
That is generally understood to be in Asia though,culturally. User:raspberrysnapple 28 April 2007
[edit] Why the focus on ethnicity and size comparisons?
According to the Wikipedia article on Demographics:
"Commonly-used demographics include race, age, income, disabilities, mobility (in terms of travel time to work or number of vehicles available), educational attainment, home ownership, employment status, and even location."
Unfortunately, the 'demographics of London' article is biased towards just two elements. One is 'ethnicity'. The other is size comparisons with other European capitals. No explanation is given as to why these two factors are more important than say, the distribution of income or occupation.
This article can only be improved by a much more indepth study that goes beyond just nationalism and ethnicism.

[edit] =Update
Clearly, this article must be updated, as it does not say anything about the Polish population in London. On the statistics table, it is not even included. There has been a very significant wave o Polish migration since 2004 and the article doesn't reflect that.
