The Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) is a group of ex Buddhist soldiers in the Karen National Liberation Army, a Burmese rebel group, who went over to the side of the Burmese ruling military junta. This group was given territory inside of Burma to rule over in exchange. They played a significant part in the capture of Manerplaw, a rebel Karen stronghold headquarter.
While the DKBA claims to be fighting against anti-Buddhist discrimination inside the Karen National Union (KNA), it is in practice the small private army of a warlord in alliance with the Burmese military junta.[citation needed]
Pado Mahn Shar, the secretary-general of the Karen National Union was shot dead in his home in Mae Sot, Thailand, on February 14, 2008, possibly by soldiers of the DKBA. [1][2][3]
