• 1800 - A memorial "funeral procession" for former President George Washington, who had died December 14th, was held in New Castle.

• 1886 - The Citizens' Hose Fire Company, No. 1, was organized in Smyrna.

• 1943 - The Delaware basketball team played its first game in Carpenter Field House in Newark and lost to Rutgers, 39-38.

• 1998 - Wilmington fire fighter Prince Albert "Al" Mousley, Jr. died of a heart attack while responding to a house fire at 2802 Tatnall Street.
