- 1905 - The "State Register" newspaper in Laurel reported that eight persons had walked out of the Georgetown jail while the "Sheriff slumbered."
- 1981 - The third-ranked University of Virginia Cavaliers basketball team, with their star Ralph Sampson, visited the Field House and defeated the University of Delaware Hens 88-69.
