  • 1899 - The Sussex Trust Company opened an office in Laurel at Central Avenue and Market Street.
  • 1922 - The second and third floors of Belmont Hall in Smyrna, the former home of Governor Thomas Collins, were damaged by fire.
  • 1933 - The "Every Evening" merged with the "Evening Journal" newspaper in Wilmington.
  • 1954 - To keep deer from overrunning the habitat, the General Assembly passed a law allowing the first modern-day shotgun season, the first such law in 114 years.
