  • 1790 - The General Assembly met in the Golden Fleece Tavern on Dover's Green and formally adopted the first eleven of the original twelve proposed amendments to the new U.S. Constitution.
  • 1814 - After the General Assembly changed the name of the hamlet of "Fast Landing" to "Vienna" in Kent County, folks didn't like it so they changed it themselves to "Leipsic," and the name stuck.
  • 1825 - Laws were passed by the General Assembly barring blacks from within one half-mile of the polling booth on election day.
  • 1944 - A Navy pilot burned to death in a crash in a very heavy winter fog as he tried to make a forced landing on the farm of Clarence Jester of Thompsonville near Milford.
