- 1839 - A petition to abolish slavery was put forth by 300 Wilmington women.
- 1871 - Wilmington blacks mourned the death of Quaker abolitionist Thomas Garrett of Wilmington as he was laid to rest in the grounds of the Quaker Meeting at 4th and West Streets.
- 1934 - A grass fire burned the Bellanca Hangar near New Castle and incinerated the world famous WB-II Columbia airplane.
- 1963 - Twentieth Century Fox staged the world premiere of its film "Sodom and Gomorrah" starring Stewart Granger and Pier Angeli at Wilmington's Rialto Theater.
