- 1809 - The New Castle Frenchtown Turnpike was chartered.
- 1888 - The first trip over the electric street railway was conducted in Wilmington.
- 2003 - During an unusually severe cold wave, travelers were warned to call ahead to the Cape May−Lewes Ferry operations center because of ice 500 yards out from the Lewes terminal and over a mile of ice in the Cape May Canal.
