  • 1872 - The St. Georges Library Association was founded with four kinds of membership: active, life, perpetual, and honorary.
  • 1917 - The Society of Friends sponsored a meeting in Wilmington to arouse interest in the disbanding of the State's whipping post.
  • 1991 - A Federal Jury found Dover's Wesley College responsible in the death by smoke inhalation of Christopher Sterner, a York, Pennsylvania student, and awarded his parents $502,000.
  • 2001 - Financial records of the previous November's Gubernatorial election marked it as the most expensive campaign race ever in Delaware. Governor Ruth Ann Minner raised $1.9 million while her challenger Republican John Burris raised $1.7 million. In the three weeks leading up to the election, Minner spent $160,000 each week.
