  • 1800 - The General Assembly authorized a ferry to be operated over the Christina River at Newport.
  • 1918 - At the Fourth Annual Auto Show in Wilmington's Hotel Du Pont, twenty-two dealers offered such new cars as the Oakland, Oldsmobile, Nash, Overland, Hudson, Ford, Winton Six, Dodge, Franklin, etc.
  • 1997 - Thomas R. Carper became the first Democratic governor to be elected consecutively, and on the same day an earthquake of 1.4 on the Richter scale was felt in West Center City, Wilmington.
