- 1916 - Until this time automobiles were sold by hardware store owners and other businessmen on the side. Thereafter the sale of cars became a separate business.
- 1950 - Eighty year old Pierre S. du Pont hosted a party at Longwood, his estate in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Some 632 relatives paid fifty cents per year of age to attend the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the du Pont family's arrival in America.
- 2002 - The Alexis I. duPont High School band marched in the New Year's Day parade in London and played "God Save the Queen" in front of the Parliament Building.
- 2006 - Wilmington Mayor James M. Baker was injured slightly after a stolen SUV broadsided the car he was driving one block from his home. The unknown driver of the other car escaped into the neighborhood.
