She attended Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen (nr Pontypridd) and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth (BA Hons - French)

Management Consultant and former BBC and HTV journalist - worked on the BBC's World at One and PM programmes before becoming an assistant to Gordon Brown MP in 1992 and policy adviser and speechwriter to the former Labour leader John Smith, 1992-1994 (joined the Labour Party in 1984). Former special adviser to Alun Michael.

Became the Assembly Member on the Mid & West Wales regional list when the seat was vacated by The Rt Hon Alun Michael AM MP (she was second on the Labour list for that region). Appointed Deputy Minister for Rural Affairs, Culture & the Environment October 2000-03. Stood down at the 2003 election.
