DELiA*s

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

dELiA*s is an American clothing retailer aimed towards teenage girls and young adult women.

The company was founded by Stephen Kahn and Chris Edgar in 1993, in Kahn's garage. The name "dELiA*s" was chosen because Kahn wanted a name that no girl had ever heard of, so no negative connotations could be placed onto it. dELiA*s began circulating its fashions with mail-order catalogs. After a positive response, the online store was launched in 1999, and the founders began opening retail stores in November that year. Today, dELiA*s operates stores across the country, mostly in malls. The retail stores are comprised of two types, vintage and proto. The vintage stores are the older stores and feature white furniture and teal/aqua accents. Proto stores feature wood paneling and wood carvings.

The store is most popular for its logo tees, which feature a wide variety of quirky screen prints, vintage band names, and catch phrases. dELiA*s stores also feature other brands besides its own, including the brand Junk Food, which makes t-shirts adorned with food logos and the Little Miss and Mr. brand. In addition to clothing, dELiA*s sells shoes, accessories, and home furnishings.
