Deir Ghazaleh (Arabic: دير غزاله‎) is a Palestinian village in the northern West Bank, located nine kilometers northeast of Jenin in the Jenin Governorate. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, Deir Ghazaleh had a population of over 850 inhabitants in mid-year 2006.[1] The town contains one clinic but it was shut down from 2001-02, since its staff is unable to reach the town due to Israeli checkpoints in the area.[2]

[edit] Water

The main source of water available to Palestinians is the large groundwater aquafer underlying the occupied West Bank. The water system is however largely controlled by Israel, and drilling restriction has severed the ongoing water crisis.[3] Deir Ghazaleh, however has a well, located just outside the village, called the Abu ´Ahed well. The well, which was drilled before the restrictions took place in 1967, also supply water to the surrounding communities. Some of these communities depend on the Abu ´Ahed well, although it's not enough to cover their needs.[4]
