Ded Gjo Luli

Ded Gjo Luli, formally known as Dedë Gjon Luli Dedvukaj (1840 - 1915), was born in Traboin-Hoti (Malësi e Madhe). He hails from the tribe of Hoti located in the region of Malsia. He was one of the leading nationalists of the Albanian revolt for independence. Deda is most known for starting the revolution for the Albanians, which eventually lead to later actions by Luigj Gurakuqi, Ismail Qemali, and Isa Boletini. Dedvukaj was the chef commander of the Malësia army. He fought in The Battle of Deciq where he successfully defeated the "young turks". He was most known to raising the Albanian Flag on 1911 in the town of Tuzi, Montenegro, following national hero Gjergj Kastrioti (Skenderbeg) on 1443. In Tirana, Albania today, there is a street named in his honour called "Rruga Ded Gjo Luli". In the village of Traboin, his kulla (house) was converted into a museum which represents his life as a hero to the Albanian people.
