Declan Nerney is an Irish singer of Country and Irish genre. Born in the town of Drumlish in County Longford, he started at the age of 16 in local band the "The Hi-Lo's". His big break came with his autobiographical song "The Marquee in Drumlish". He has a huge following not only in Ireland but in Scotland and England and his recordings are sought worldwide.[citation needed]

His early education was at the Ennybegs National School in Longford. Later he attended St Mels College , Longford where he sat his Leaving Certificate . He was brought up on a small farm and has a passion for vintage tractors .

In 1990 he sang at half-time in the All-Ireland Final between Meath vs Cork to 65,000 people in Croke Park with an estimated 20 million people watching on TV worldwide.[citation needed]
Gay Byrne's Late Late Show has featured him on numerous occasions.[citation needed]
Local radio such as Radio 3 and Shannonside FM have interviewed him many times.[citation needed]
He featured on Daniel O'Donnell's column in the Sunday World newspaper on numerous occasions.[citation needed]
St. Patrick's Day 1994 he sang live to 60 million people on network TV over the USA.[citation needed]
Each year since 2004 , Declan and over 400 of his fans travel to Spain for "The Hooley in the Sun" one of the most popular Irish music holidays. Many of Ireland's top singers accompany Declan for what is a great holiday.[citation needed]
In November of 2006 , RTÉ Television broadcast a half hour documentary of his life
On August 31st 2007 , Declan attracted a crowd of over 3,000 to the revival of the Marquee in Drumlish , the first time in many years that this traditional style of dance was held in the area.[citation needed]
