Talk:Death's Door

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I created this entry because I did not find an entry with this title. It was not until later that I found the article Porte des Morts. The two might best be combined. RDavS 02:19, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

It has come to my attention that Holand's account may be biased, not necessarily by his own preferences, but simply by the source of the account. If as he says this tradition was relayed to white fishermen by natives from the islands, those reports would have come from Potawatomi peoples. There seems to be evidence that it was the Potawatomi who were the newcomers to the area. The Winnebago (Ho-Chunk) apparently have no tradition of having come from Mexico, although portions of the Winnebago could have encountered the Spanish on the southern Great Plains. The battle, if indeed it occurred, may have taken place after the first contact between the French and Winnebago, but before the French spent enough time in the immediate area to give a name to the strait. Research of the matter continues. RDavS 22:06, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

I plan to combine this page with Porte des Morts as soon as I can figure out how to preserve links to this page or get them to go to the other page. RDavS 20:35, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
