Death threatz is a 1996 album by MC Eiht & Compton's Most Wanted. It was the follow-up to his immensely popular, platinum selling album "We Come Strapped". Everyone had high hopes for this LP to sell like the last one, but around this time Eiht had problems with his label Epic/Sony behind the scenes. It appears that the "powers that be" wanted Eiht to clean-up his style and image, but Eiht refused, reminding them that this is not an image, this was his real life. These disagreements led to interference with the sales and promotion of the album. Although it nearly went gold (it sold around 354,000 copies), the lack of push from his label kept Eiht from recapturing the magic from his previous LP. Though it's still considered by most devoted CMW fans as an outstanding album. Stand-out cuts are the first single "Thuggin It Up" with its haunting keyboards (played by MC Eiht himself). The funky-grooves and guitar played by Rob "Funksta" Bacon on the first track "Def Wish IV" are great. On this song, Eiht gets a small measure of revenge on DJ Quik after Quik's stand-out diss song "Dollaz & Sense". On "Late Nite Hype Part 2" Eiht show-cases his story-telling skills about a down and out guy who does whatever he can to come up, reminding us that MC Eiht is one of the best narrators in the history of West Coast rap.
