The real problem with this: Too many sentences -- and paragraphs -- begun with subordinate clauses. The current mode favors simple declarative sentences. Sentences beginning with subordinate clauses are too, well, wimpy. In any case, David: The excessive use of subordinate clauses suggests you might want to rethink basic writing style. This is not good in English prose generally, and appalling in a journalistic context.
