David Walsh (mining)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Walsh was founder and CEO of the Canadian mining company Bre-X, which was involved in one of the largest stock market scandals in Canadian history. During the mid-1990s, Walsh allegedly masterminded the Bre-X fraud (the single largest mining scam of all time) and promoted the company's stock with full knowledge of the completely fabricated nature of its value. Prior to the Bre-X fraud, in 1992, Walsh was a failed stock promoter in substantial debt and filing for bankruptcy. In 1998 he was still claiming innocence when he died of an apparent aneurysm suffered at his luxurious home in the Bahamas.

Mr. Walsh was never convicted of any wrongdoing, although as of 2008, multiple lawsuits are still ongoing against his estate.
