David Shaffer is chairman of the department of Child Psychiatry at the Columbia-Presbyterian College of Physicians and Surgeons and a child psychiatrist at the New York State Psychiatric Institute of the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in New York City.
Shaffer has done research on suicide in children and youths as well as childhood schizophrenia and depression. He is also the creator of TeenScreen.
He has been married and divorced twice. His first wife was the caterer Serena Bass, by whom he has two sons. His second wife, by whom he has a daughter and a son, was Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.
