[edit] Political views

[edit] On illegal immigration

David believes that securing the US-Mexico border is among the most urgent topics in Arizona.[2] He also believes that amnesty should not be granted to any illegal immigrants. [3] Once the border is secure, there can be considerations for implenting a new common sense guest worker program. [4]

[edit] On fiscal responsibility

This excerpt taken from his campaign website:
"In 2006, Republicans lost the majority in Congress because they ceased being the party of fiscal responsibility. Now that Democrats are in control, things have only become worse. Our federal government continues to spend money it doesn’t have and wastes billions of our tax dollars every year on questionable spending. The complete lack of fiscal responsibility coming out of Congress needs to stop.

I have been a fiscal conservative my entire career. I believe that it is possible for government to spend your tax dollars frugally; unfortunately, most of those in government don’t want to do that.

As your next Congressman, I will work to bring about a culture of fiscal responsibility in Congress. More specifically, I will push to limit the growth and size of government. I will work to eliminate the terribly irresponsible and corrupting practice of earmarking or pork barrel spending. Most importantly though, I will not vote to burden our future generations with debt by supporting spending money we don’t have.

[edit] On the Iraq War

This excerpt also taken from his campaign website:
"The battle we are fighting against global terrorism is one we cannot afford to lose. I firmly believe that we must remain completely committed to winning this war. This is a battle that will determine the future course of our great nation and the world. We simply cannot afford to allow terrorists to jeopardize our security at home or abroad. [5]

In Congress, I will push to make sure that our intelligence agencies, our military, and our state and local law enforcement agencies have every necessary resource to fight this battle. Only with a firm commitment and an unyielding sense of resolve will we be able to eliminate the threat that terrorism has brought to our country. I believe this is a battle that can be won and will be won with the right dedication and support from both citizens and our government."[6]

[edit] Endorsements

David Schweikert was endorsed by the political action committee Club for Growth. Schweikert was endorsed by the Club for Growth because of his low tax and small government record.[7]
"We are pleased that the Club for Growth has endorsed our campaign," said Schweikert. "Our message is that common sense, pro-growth tax reform is essential to the future of our country."

Former Congressman Pat Toomey stated, "It is clear that David Schweikert is a tireless defender of taxpayers who will continue to fight for taxpayers in the U.S. Congress."

[edit] Life and career

David has was the treasurer of Maricopa County and resigned to start campaigning for the upcoming 2008 congressional elections. He was also a member of the Arizona House of Representations from 1991-1994, where he kept a consistenly conservative record.
