David "Dave" Pinkney (born July 5, 1952 in Bridlington, Yorkshire) is a British businessman and auto racing driver. In 2006 he raced in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in one of the 2005 championship-winning Honda Integra cars. He took a pair of top 5 finishes at Thruxton in rounds 11 and 12, following it with 2 more points finishes at Croft. For 2007, he drives an Alfa Romeo 156 run by the newly-established A-Tech team. After a handful of points finishes, his involvement in an 11-car pile-up at Brands Hatch left him in hospital and with the car written off.

[edit] Early Racing Career

David was a semi-regular BTCC driver in the late 1980s and early 1990s, in a BMW from 1992 to 1993. He also briefly raced in the series in 2001, in a rather unreliable Alfa Romeo 147, leaving the JSM team after four rounds.

He has won the Vectra championship twice, in 1996 and 1999. He also raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup in 2004 and once in 2005, and the Seat Cupra Challenge in 2005.

There is an expanded version of this with images on history.

[edit] Pink theme

His car liveries generally contain a large amount of pink, in deference to his name. The slogan "Pink My Ride" (a play on Pimp My Ride) appears on the top of his windscreen.

[edit] Luton Town Football Club

On April 13, 2007, following the resignation of chairman Bill Tomlins, it was announced that he would be taking over Luton Town Football Club. Pinkney's time as owner and chairman of the club was not successful; following a scandal regarding illegal payments to players' agents (which happened before his time as chair), the club went into administrative receivership on November 22, which was, it was later revealed, a failed attempt by the amateurish Pinkney to buy the club back free of debt. Due to putting the club into administration Pinkney caused Luton Town to receive a Ten Point penalty and drop into the relegation zone where they remained until the end of the season.
