David Mendes da Silva (born August 4, 1982 in Rotterdam) is a Dutch footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for AZ Alkmaar. His former teams are Sparta Rotterdam, Ajax Amsterdam and NAC Breda. He is a very versatile player who can play all over midfield and in defence. He is known for his dribbling and technique as well as his tackling.

His name Mendes da Silva, a typical form of family name in Portuguese language. He has Cape Verde heritage, Cape Verdeans were mixed European and African race.

NAC Breda signed Mendes in summer 2004 in four year deal. Two year later he was signed by AZ in 5 year deal.

He made his international debut for Netherlands on February 7, 2007.
He also played for Dutch U-20s team at 2001 FIFA World Youth Championship, which losing to Egypt U-20 team at quarter-finals.
