David Lewiston

David Lewiston (b. ca. 1929) is a London-born[1] recording engineer. He is best known for his recordings of music from around the world, released on LP on the Explorer Series of Nonesuch Records beginning in 1967.

He earned a graduate degree in 1953 from Trinity College of Music in London, where he studied piano. He lated studied piano in New York with Thomas de Hartmann, who had been a pupil of Gurdjieff. He first worked as a journalist but abandoned this career in favor for traveling the world recording traditional music.

His first recording was made in Bali in 1966, and released in 1967. His recordings also include recordings of the Buddhist monks of the Gyuto Order of Tibet, as well as music from dozens of other countries, including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, India, Kashmir, Pakistan, Morocco، and Central Asia.

He lives in Maui, Hawaii, where he is currently working on archiving his recordings and other materials collected during his life's work.
