David Hobby

David Hobby (born January 30, 1965) is an American photographer and author of the Strobist.com lighting blog, a site which promotes off-camera flash usage among photographic enthusiasts.

Hobby is a staff photojournalist with The Baltimore Sun, and author of Strobist.com, a popular blog devoted to photographic lighting techniques. Published daily, the blog has an on-line readership of 200,000 photographers in over 175 countries. Over 23,000 web users have registered with its companion Strobist Flickr group. In June 2007, he took a year-long leave of absence from the Sun to blog full-time[1].

Hobby has written an article on a DIY photo studio in the December 2007 issue of MacWorld[2].

Hobby co-authored the book Columbia: A Celebration with Susan Thornton Hobby, published by Perry Publishing in 1995[9].

Hobby studied photojournalism at the University of Florida.

Hobby lives in suburban Baltimore (Columbia), Maryland, United States, with his wife and two children.
