David Hatcher Childress

David Hatcher Childress (b. 1957) is an American author of books on topics in alternative history. His works often cover such subjects as pre-Columbian trans-oceanic contact, the Knights Templar, lost cities and vimana aircraft. [1] Much of his writing, particularly his claims for ancient technology, relies upon 'channelled' information from other writers. Within the academic community his works are not cited and his books generally dismissed. Although Childress regularly claims to be an "archaeologist," in fact he has no college degree, having dropped out of his freshman year of college never to return.

Born in France, and raised in Colorado, Childress began his world travels at 19 years old in pursuit of his archeological interests. He chronicled his explorations in his popular Lost Cities and Ancient Mysteries series of books which document stories and legends of forgotten civilizations around the world. Childress allegedly is one of few westerners to travel through certain parts of China where secrets of that country's ancient past are mostly kept from public viewing. However, there is no evidence for this.
Childress founded Adventures Unlimited Press, publishing his own works as well as many other authors who present theories and evidence of ancient civilizations and little-known technologies. Along with historian and linguist Carl W. Hart, Childress founded the World Explorers Club (and its magazine, World Explorer), a group that often travels to the places Childress writes about.
He was heavily influenced by Richard Kieninger, a student of what he called 'Lemurian Philosophy' after he was given, he says, a book by the author while he was in Africa. In 1983 he moved to Stelle, Illinois which Kieninger had founded[2], claiming to have real evidence for the existence of Mu and Lemuria. He has been involved in at least two lawsuits, one of which failed due to the statute of limitations and the other, involving his company's publication of a master's thesis without permission, was settled out of court[3].
Childress has been seen on various television programs on Fox Network (Sightings and Encounters), Discovery Channel, A&E, The History Channel, and the like, as an expert consultant on subjects such as the Bermuda Triangle, Atlantis, and UFOs.
